Job Description

Join our team as a French teacher Secondary and inspire a love of learning in our students! You will be responsible for delivering a high-quality French curriculum aligned with GEMS Core Values, employing differentiated instruction to meet individual student needs.

This role involves creating engaging learning experiences, assessing student progress, and providing guidance on their educational journey. Collaboration with colleagues, participation in school activities, and proactive communication with parents are essential.

We are looking for a passionate educator with a Bachelor’s degree in French, excellent communication, IT, and interpersonal skills, and a strong commitment to student well-being and safeguarding (including a UK-enhanced DBS check or equivalent).

Responsibilities:

  • Upholding GEMS Ethos: Embody and promote the GEMS Core Values and standards of excellence.
  • Curriculum Delivery: Deliver the French curriculum with accurate and current subject knowledge.
  • Instructional Planning & Delivery: Plan and deliver high-quality, engaging lessons using diverse materials and classroom environments to cater to various learning styles. Provide written evidence of planning upon request.
  • Record Keeping: Establish and maintain records of curriculum, year plans, attendance, teaching resources, and assessment plans.
  • Policy Adherence: Ensure compliance with all GEMS policies, procedures, and codes of conduct.
  • Differentiated Instruction: Teach assigned students according to their individual needs, employing appropriate strategies for diverse learners (e.g., late-entering, ESL, varying academic abilities, gifted).
  • Assessment & Reporting: Set and mark work; assess, record, and report on student progress and attainment, using assessment data to inform instruction.
  • Technology Integration: Demonstrate competence in using media and technology in the classroom.
  • Student Well-being: Promote the general progress and well-being of students and provide educational guidance.
  • External Communication: Communicate with external stakeholders (e.g., Ministry of Education officials) as needed.
  • Professional Development: Participate in appraisal, performance management, and continuing professional development.
  • Collaboration: Work collaboratively with colleagues on curriculum development, resources, and pastoral care.
  • Co-curricular Involvement: Participate in and potentially lead co-curricular and extra-curricular programmes. Foster positive working relationships through leadership and sharing.
  • Behavior Management: Monitor and supervise student behavior, implement strategies for self-discipline, and manage disruptive behavior.
  • Cultural Awareness: Model and encourage cultural awareness, understanding, and a love of learning.
  • School Events: Assist in the planning and organizing of school events and functions.
  • Parent Communication: Communicate regularly with parents, promoting the GEMS philosophy and values, keeping them informed of student progress while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Initiative: Demonstrate effort and energy beyond typical work hours when required.
  • Meetings & Committees: Attend staff meetings and serve on committees as needed.
  • Other Duties: Perform other duties as requested by supervisors.

  • Bachelor’s degree in French.

  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting student welfare.
  • Willingness to undergo a UK-enhanced DBS check (or equivalent).
